Worrell et al. (1997, Energy Policy) 의 *Physical Production Index (PPI)* framework — 각 product 의 best-practice technology 에너지 소비를 weight 로 한 production index — 가 이 sister-paper 들의 방법론 토대.

이후 Utrecht University 의 Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development 로 옮겨 산업 탈탄소화 정책 (cement, steel, chemicals) 연구를 계속.
