[NEEDS_SOURCE] — Wright (1936) airframe production 의 first systematic 보고 이후, Arrow (1962) 의 이론적 정형화, Alchian (1963) 의 empirical 검증으로 정립된 *cumulative output 증가에 따른 marginal cost 감소* framework. Internal (own production) vs external (rival production spillovers) 두 source 로 분해 가능 (Irwin-Klenow 1994). 반도체·TFT-LCD·항공·화학 등 technology-driven industry 의 catch-up·진입장벽 분석의 표준 도구.
